FAQ – All about Lava Bead Jewelry & Diffusing
How do I use essential oil jewelry with essential oils?
Using essential oils with lava bead diffuser jewelry is very easy. Just use a drop or two of your favorite oils and rub them on the black lava beads. The easiest way is to add the oil on your finger first and then rub it on the black lava beads. You can rub the residue on your hands and inhale for extra benefit. You can also apply essential oils from a roller bottle and just run the roller bottle over the black lava beads.
How do I know what oils to use?
There is no right or wrong oils to use with your bracelets. Try different oils and see what you like best. Typically citrus oils and oils like peppermint are great for a quick pick me up and boost of energy. Relaxing oils such as lavender and Doterra blends Serenity, Forgive, Console are great for relaxing and stress relief.
What are lava beads?
Lava beads are natural beads made from cooled down molten rock after a volcano eruption. The pitted surface of lava rock beads is perfect for essential oil diffusing. Lava beads are said to have healing and grounding properties.
Do essential oils stain?
Some essential oils can stain depending on the oils used so use care when applying. To avoid staining on clothing, apply essential oils on the lava beads and keep away from fabrics to avoid staining. Wait a few minutes for the oils to absorb. Doterra oils are very high quality and usually disappear very quickly without leaving residue behind.
How long do the essential oils last?
The length of time that the essential oils last on the jewelry depend on how much of oil you are using and what oil you are using. A drop or two might last 2-4 hours, if you use more oil it can last 24 hours. Some stronger oils will last longer than lighter oils. The best thing to do is to find your favorite and reapply when you notice the scent is gone.
Can I use more than one oil?
Yes you can absolutely use more than one oil. You can make your own mix by mixing the oils first and then applying them on the beads or by applying them directly from the bottle. Find your own favorite combinations by trying different oils.
What is aromatherapy and what are the benefits of essential oil diffusing?
According to National Association of Aromatherapy (NAHA) aromatherapy means the following: “Aromatherapy can be defined as the art and science of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance, harmonize and promote the health of body, mind and spirit. It is an art and science which seeks to explore the physiological, psychological and spiritual realm of the individual’s response to aromatic extracts as well as to observe and enhance the individual’s innate healing process.”
Essential oil diffusing benefits
One of the most well-studied areas of aroma research is the effect of smell on emotions and mood. For example, there is convincing evidence demonstrating that simply inhaling the aroma of an essential oil is effective for calming nervous or anxious feelings in a variety of settings. The smell receptors located on the upper surface of the nasal cavity make direct links with the limbic system of the brain, an area that governs the body’s emotional responses. This close connection between aroma and emotion becomes obvious in our everyday life as certain odors trigger memories or specific feelings. Some aromas directly impact mood (for example calming, balancing, or invigorating), while others trigger memories of a specific experience, often one tied to a strong emotion.
Intriguing new research has also helped us recognize that the benefits of aroma extend far beyond just emotional regulation. In addition to influencing the limbic region of the brain, olfactory centers are also intricately linked with the hypothalamus, an area of the brain more familiarly nicknamed the “visceral control center” because it controls physiologic functions throughout the body. The hypothalamus exerts its powerful influence by interacting directly with the pituitary gland, or “master gland,” a small gland located in the brain. The pituitary gland secretes hormones involved in the regulation of blood pressure, hunger and thirst signals, thyroid function, sleep cycles, production of sexual hormones, and memory, among other things. Because of the direct link of the olfactory system to this area of the brain, aroma is capable of interacting directly with the hypothalamus, influencing neurochemistry throughout the body, and, in turn, potentiating powerful health outcomes.
Where can I buy essential oils?
You can find essential oils from natural food stores such as Sprouts and Mother’s Market or online from places such as Mountain Rose Herbs or Doterra. I became a Wellness Advocate for Doterra about a year ago and love their oils and the quality. Their oil blends are amazing and so easy to us. Doterra offers a yearly membership program, similar to a Costco type membership, where you pay $35 a year and can purchase oils at wholesale cost directly from their website. Subsequent renewals are $25 per year and there are no monthly purchase minimums or other obligations. The more you buy, the more points you earn that you can then use to get free products. It’s a great program if you are interested in getting started with oils. You can just order the oils when you need and there are no requirements to fulfill monthly. Doterra offers great starter kits and the quality of the oils is amazing. If you are used to purchasing your oils from the stores and you try Doterra, you’ll be amazed at the difference in the quality. To sign up for Doterra whole membership, click here. You can request a sample of Doterra oils and I’ll be more than happy to get one sent to you. Just click here for more information.
